Olympic Lifting

The CrossFit methodology teaches us that in order for fitness to be improved on an all-inclusive, overall level, all aspects of fitness must be increased. Olympic lifting trains the body in all areas by activating the muscles more rapidly.

There are two main component lifts to this type of training—the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. In the Snatch, the barbell is lifted from the ground to overhead in one fast motion. The Clean & Jerk differs slightly when the barbell moves from the floor, stopping at the shoulders, then overhead, also in a fast motion.

Both lifts are explosive and very functional because your whole body goes through the range of motion, building endurance and muscle strength. Olympic lifting takes typical weight lifting one step farther because it involves your whole body, whereas traditional lifting just works one area while the rest is stationary.
