Born and raised in the Burgh (Yinzer through and through),
Matt has spent a majority of his life competing in a variety of sports, and after playing collegiate football from 2006-2009 found himself without a training purpose. He then found CrossFit in 2011 after watching a rerun of the 2010 CrossFit Games, and has been coaching the sport since 2012.
Aside from being a coach, a husband, a dad, and an avid coffee drinker, Matt is also a full time Wellness coordinator and believes fitness training plays a vital role in the success of any program or person. He also strongly believes that while rap music may not make you stronger, it does make you lift more!
Coach Matt’s consistent upbeat and positive energy fosters a training environment at Mayview that allows people to overcome self-doubt or perceived limitations, in order to achieve their full potential.

Melissa has been active through her whole life, participating in track and competitive cheerleading in high school. At the University of Pittsburgh, she discovered weight training and a joy in instructing others on their fitness journey. She taught aerobics classes through college to earn some spending cash while pursuing her degree in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition and has taught near every type of class imaginable, from Aerobics, Boot Camp, Pilates, Spinning to Zumba (yes, Zumba). Her 20+ year journey through fitness began in group fitness instructor and grew into fitness management.
“Had I not worked in fitness all these years, I’d never had come across Crossfit. That word kept popping up in industry literature, and I decided to see what it was all about. I started Crossfit in November of 2012, and within a few workouts, I was hooked. It renewed my love of fitness and re-inspired my desire to teach others. Two years after starting as a participant, it was natural that I would want to become a coach so that I could share this amazing discipline with others. The Crossfit methodology is amazing, and I continue to enjoy learning and expanding my areas of focus. My goal in life is to help people feel better and do better. The success of those who I have the privilege to coach are as celebratory to me as they are to them! ”
Having an endurance background, Melissa enjoys a good Metcon WOD, and loves weightlifting complexes though she claims they will always be a “work in progress”. Outside of Crossfit, she enjoys running, road cycling, yoga, and kettlebell workouts. She enjoys hanging out with her pets, going on cruises with her husband Bryan, finding great music, going to the theater with friends, and growing plants and flowers indoors and outdoors. Her full time job is running the office for her husband’s electrical contracting business, but she will always be involved in fitness, her first love.

Bri was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and lived in Florida for a short part of her childhood. Bri danced for about 12 years and played varsity women’s lacrosse in High School. Crossfit became a new sport for Bri when going to the gym alone became monotonous. “I simply was bored. I would maybe stay for an hour and never saw any changes.” The constantly varied movements, high intensity workouts, and the community is everything Bri wanted and found in Crossfit. “I love good fun competition, and pushing myself beyond what I thought I could do.”
Bri has recently transitioned from being a member to a L1 Coach at Crossfit Mayview. Bri was inspired and encouraged by fellow members to get her L1. “I never thought this was what I wanted to do. I always laughed when told that I should become a coach.” Bri is easy to spot in the gym; she is always laughing, dancing, or both.
When Bri is not at the gym, she enjoys anything and everything from the Marvel Universe, reading books, dirt bike riding, and spending time with her friends, family, and animals. Bri loves all animals – fur, feathered, or scaled. When she is not in the Burgh, you can usually find her on a beach or somewhere warm.

I got into CrossFit because my wife and I needed to make exercising a part of our lives again after putting it off for 2 years. We wanted to try something that changed daily but also didn’t take up an entire evening. On a whim we joined a box up the street from our house and started our journey by going to a 6am class. The workout was Annie which is Double Unders and Sit-Ups. I never would’ve thought those 2 exercises could be so difficult until I was timing myself. The workout itself was brutally difficult but the atmosphere of the class was what made us come back the next day even though one of us might’ve thrown up post WOD. After that day which was almost 5 years ago we were hooked for life. Being able to enjoy it with her by my side is one of my favorite parts of CrossFit. What I get most out of coaching is seeing the athletes successes. Whether it is improving a time, lift, or finally getting a movement. The satisfaction of knowing that you helped them getting there makes it worth every moment.
Favorite movement is Wallballs so obviously favorite workout is Karen
Hobbies outside of the gym are cooking and playing with my 2 boys Cole and Connor.
Fun fact: I’ve gone skydiving even though at the time I was terrified of heights… not anymore
